White nights in Saint-Petersburg

From late May to mid-July, find the days without night of St. Petersburg!

Each year after many months of winter St-Petersburg has 50 days when the sun doesn't set, offering endless days for its inhabitants. This unique natural phenomenon called the summer solstice is explained by the geographical position of St. Petersburg. It is the most northern City in the world, located on the 60th parallel.

For over 300 years, St. Petersburg has been taking the opportunity to celebrate the short summer as it must have and concerts and shows are organized everywhere. The atmosphere becomes truly magical, undescibable and unique.

To walk along the Neva is usually very pleasant but during the White Nights of St. Petersburg it becomes a magical moment, especially when waiting for the raising of illuminated bridges of Baltic Pearl.

Obviously this is a phenomenon that attracts tourists from around the world so do not wait for your turn and get to know a time considered as the most fantastic one of the year!

Souvenir Plus in London

Souvenir Plus at WTM-2009 in London

From November 09-12, 2009 “Souvenir Plus” took part in the World Travel Market 2009 in London. Participation in such a highly regarded international travel event – one which attracts professionals from all over the world – allowed the exhibition team to once again to meet with our partners, establish new contacts and introduce ourselves to tourism professionals from all over the world. We are thankful to all the participants who took the time to visit our stand.

The colorful exhibition design and festive and informal atmosphere supported by exhibitors and organizers alike helped in the work and kept the spirits up of everyone who attended.

About Saint-Petersburg

“No other city in the world presents such a unity of style. Born from a will of a man, Saint-Petersburg is at the same time immense and admirable, reflecting the constructive thought of a genius”
D.Fernandes

Saint-Petersburg is a perfect holiday destination for those who are interested in culture and history.

The City of Saint-Petersburg is situated on the flat swampy banks of the Gulf of Finland and the River Neva. The delta consists of forty-two islands. It’s often called a museum of bridges - there are more than three hundred of them in the City.

Peter the Great founded the City in 1703 on the small island called Zayachiy, and called it Saint Peterburkh. He decided to make it the new capital of Russia.  It was to surpass all other European capitals in importance and grandeur.

The architects Trezzini, Korobov and Eropkin created the general plan of Saint-Petersburg.  They decided on the structure of the “duck foot”, based on three main avenues meeting at the Admiralty building.  They determined the geometrical design of Vasilievskiy Island and the look of the facades along the embankment of the Neva.  Rastrelli, Quarenghi, Rossi, Voronikhin and Monferrand created the magnificent ensemble of central palaces, of the quays, the avenues and the streets. Majestic palaces, marble and granite statues and delicately-wrought iron fences adorned the boulevards and the parks of the City.

In 1990, UNESCO put the old town on its world heritage list.

The historical centre of the City is Palace Square, surrounded by the Winter Palace, the buildings of the Military Headquarters and the Ministries.  The Winter Palace was the Tsar’s residence before the revolution of 1917.  Now this building, among others, houses the Hermitage State Museum – the biggest museum of art and history in Russia.

The 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s were a period of stability for the Soviet Union and Leningrad: the City bore this name from 1924 to 1991.  Even though civil liberties were considerably limited, the majority of the population lived in relative prosperity.  When the reforms known around the World as Perestroika started, this stability rapidly disappeared and the population suffered economic difficulties.

In 1991, after a referendum, the City of Leningrad took back its original name of Saint-Petersburg.

The citizens of Saint-Petersburg look to the future with optimism and invite visitors to share their admiration for their home.  Saint-Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the World. We love it and we are convinced that your journey here will be full of marvels.
